Conditioner products are used to moisten and soften hair. This especially makes a difference when it comes to ethnic and African American hair.

There are many types of ingredients found in conditioner products such as moisturizers, reconstructors, acidifiers, detanglers, thermal protectors, glossers, oils, surfactants, lubricants, sequestrants, antistatic agents, and preservatives. There are generally four main types of conditioning products: Pack, leave in, ordinary, and hold.  Pack conditioners generally contain higher amounts of surfactant than other conditioner products.  Leave in conditioners have lesser amounts of surfactant and is not as strong as a pack conditioner and is better for certain hair types.  An ordinary conditioner is an in-between of pack and leave in, incorporating aspects of both.  Finally, a hold conditioner is used to hold the hair shape and is much like a lesser concentrated hair gel.
